Betts Gallery is starting off the new year with a show of paintings by Sheep Jones and her sister Julie Cyr, who passed away in December 2019. The show entitled ‘City Country’ runs from January 24th through February 21st. Coming home to Maine, the Waterville natives, settled in Belfast after years of working and living in other places. Each with their own unique voice and their vivid imagination, using figures, animals and landscapes, their paintings tell stories with an air of mystery and magic realism.

Betts Gallery welcomes you to their annual ‘Holiday Galleria’ which opens to the public for perusing and holiday shopping on November 15th. The exhibit of local, affordable small works of art and craft, in a variety of media includes works by: Susan Cooney, Julie Cyr, Kris Engman, Sarah Faragher, Helene Farrar, Conny Hatch, David Jacobson, Sheep Jones, Kirk Linder, Leslie Moore, Willy Reddick, Dorothy Royle, Lesia Sochor, Kay Sullivan, Mary Trotochaud, Peter Walls, and Janalee Welch.

There will be an opening reception, Friday December 6th, 5:30-8pm during the Belfast Holiday Art Walk. We hope you can come enjoy some refreshments, meet up with friends and chat with the artists as we ring in the holidays. And please make sure to check back in, as the show, which runs from November 15th through December 24th, will be changing throughout the month as sold pieces are replaced by new work. The gallery is open Wednesday through Friday 10-5, Saturday 10-2 or by appointment. Also open for Christmas Eve on Tuesday December 24th 10-3pm.

Roots can be the origin of something, as in families or language. It can be used to describe where one comes from, or the essential core of something, and commonly describes the parts of a plant that are below ground, such as a tuber or bulb.

Betts gallery welcomes autumn with a show celebrating ‘Trees’. Besides the beauty of trees, the majestic living beings offer us shade, they help clean the air we breathe, some provide food, and selectively harvested, they provide us with wood.
