Webster’s dictionary defines amalgamation as ‘the action or process of uniting or merging two or more things’. Invited artists working in collage, mixed media, sculpture and assemblage are Daniel Anselmi, Kate Chapin, Conny Hatch, Karen MacDonald, Maryfaith Morison, Abbie Read, Axel Stohlberg and Norman Tinker. The show runs from August 17th through September 22nd. The Belfast Framer and Betts Gallery is located at 96 Main Street in Belfast, and also may be entered from Beaver Street. Please join Betts Gallery for an opening reception Friday July 6th, 5:30-8pm for a show entitled ‘Gray Scale’. Invited artists and fine crafts people will be showing work that ranges from white to black, with infinite shades of gray in a variety of media; painting, etching, graphite, ceramic, blown glass, photography, sterling silver and enameled jewelry. Artists include Suzanne Anderson, Susan Cooney, JT Gibson, David Jacobson, Kevin Johnson, Mark Kelly, Willy Reddick, Emily Shaffer and Simon van der Ven. Betts Gallery kicks off the 2018 season with a show entitled ‘Halcyon’. This show features a plenteous group of local artists exploring the theme halcyon, which Webster’s defines as various species of kingfishers (in Latin; alcyon), as well as a feeling of calm or peacefulness, joy, prosperity or tranquility. The show runs through June 30th, and includes artists Daniel Anselmi, Sally Brophy, Kenny Cole, Susan Cooney, MJ Viano Crowe, Julie Cyr, Kris Engman, David Estey, JT Gibson, Jeffrey Jelenfy, Sheep Jones, Marc Leavitt, Karen MacDonald, Leslie Moore, Abbie Read, Wes Reddick, Willy Reddick, Dyan Ross, Lesia Sochor and April White. Please join them for an opening reception as part of the Belfast Fourth Friday Art Walk, May 25th, 5:30-8pm.

Best Betts 2017

Opening reception Friday September 22, 5:30-8:00 pm

Betts Gallery moves into fall with a show entitled ‘BEST BETTS’. We’ve decided to go through our own collection of works, and offer up some of them for sale, along with a host of other works by local artists, including: Daniel Anselmi, Julie Cyr, Sheep Jones, Kathleen Mack, Willy Reddick and Julie Rose. This will be a revolving show, meaning, when a piece is sold, it will be replaced by something new. This ever-changing exhibit will stay up through December 24th, which will allow you plenty of time to return to see what’s new! We hope you’ll join us for an opening reception on Friday September 22, 5:30-8pm, as part of the Belfast Art Walk.

Please join Betts Gallery at an opening reception on Friday August 4th, 5:30-8pm, for their late summer show entitled ‘Comfort Zone’. The show features paintings by two expressive midcoast artists, Kathleen Mack and Carol Sloane. Mack divides her time between Round Pond, Maine and Italy, and Sloane between Washington, Maine and Nova Scotia. In Mack’s oil and wax paintings, she explores the idea of wanderers, ‘living on the edge’ in search of a comfortable place, while Sloane’s oil paintings explore the mutual affection and devotional relationship between people and their pets. The show runs from August 4th through September 2nd.

Please join Betts Gallery in Belfast for an opening reception on Friday June 30th, 5:30-8pm for a group show entitled ‘Paper, Ink, Press’. Eleven midcoast artists show their stuff, using a variety of printmaking methods including, monotype, monoprint, wood block, linoleum block, deconstructed collograph, white line woodblock, and etchings. Printmaking is a way of producing multiples of an image, but it is often the process that gets printmakers excited, whether it’s the carving of a block, or the etching of a plate, or the surprises that happen when the paper comes in contact with the ink.

The artists are: Karen Adrienne, Daniel Anselmi, Holly Berry, Sally Brophy, Julie Crane, Jeffrey Jelenfy, Marc Leavitt, Leslie Moore, Maryfaith Morison, Willy Reddick and Dyan Ross. It’s that time of year again…. holiday time! A time to be thankful, and to spread joy and cheer to those around us. Betts Gallery has assembled a wonderful show of small treasures by local artists in a variety of mediums perfect for holiday gift giving. The show includes artists: Daniel Anselmi, Susan Cooney, Anne Cronin, Julie Cyr, Liz Deane, David Hurley, Sheep Jones, Mark Kelly, Marc Leavitt, John P. Miller, Petrea Noyes, Abbie Read, Wesley Reddick, Willy Reddick, Julie H. Rose, Lesia Sochor, Axel Stohlberg, Ieva Tatarsky and Janalee Welch.

Come by for a sneak peek when the show opens on Friday November 18th, and then join us for an opening reception on Friday, December 2nd from 5:30-8:00 pm. Plan a fun night out with almost a dozen other galleries all around town as part of the Belfast Holiday Art Walk! The show runs through December 24th. Betts Gallery announces a reunion show of the original artists from the former Aarhus Gallery- but with an interesting twist; each Aarhusian has invited an artist friend to include one piece to hang alongside their work in the exhibition. Some pairings are collaborative while others feature works that are distinctly different. The artists include seven charter members of Aarhus and their friends: Annadeene Fowler/Susan Brady, Kevin Johnson/Ben Potter, Mark Kelly/Vincent Abaldo, Richard Mann/Linden Frederick, Abbie Read/Karen MacDonald, Wesley Reddick/Doug Bell and Willy Reddick/Julie H Rose. The show runs from September 23rd – October 29th, with an opening reception on Friday, September 23rd from 5:30 -8:00 pm.
